Is damaged my card?

Is damaged my card?

Postby Anyeos » Tue May 27, 2014 5:07 am

I don't undertand what happens.

My card cannot scan for anything, always give me the message "tuning failed".

But knowing the exact channel, location, satellyte, frequency, fec, modulation and so, it does not work neither.

using szap-s2 gives me some weird result:

szap-s2 -l UNIVERSAL -r -S 1 -C 56 -M 5 -H "Canal Encuentro"
reading channels from file '/root/.szap/channels.conf'
zapping to 1 'Canal Encuentro':
delivery DVB-S2, modulation 8PSK
sat 0, frequency 12020 MHz V, symbolrate 30000000, coderate 5/6, rolloff 0.35
vpid 0x0046, apid 0x0047, sid 0x0046
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
status 01 | signal 75% | snr 0% | ber 0 | unc 0 |
status 01 | signal 75% | snr 0% | ber 0 | unc 0 |

My card starts apparently having signal (wtf?). But the dish is not correctly aligned. Anyway, when I move it, the 75% don't change at all. There have never a lock or never changes that numbers whenever I point the dish correctly or not.

What is failing then?

A faulty LNB?

The card outputs 14 volts correctly, as expected. The 14 volts arrives at the end of the wire. So the LNB must be working as expected. But I don't know what is happening. I don't know what more to do.

Is it for sure a universal lnb? Do you have any switch's in your setup ? Are you able to test your setup with another receiver?

Linux out of box is terrible for aiming a dish.

I don't have anything more to test. I will try to buy another LNB because I have doubts about if it is working and because the quality of this LNB seems to be poor.
It is an ILLUSION single, and yes, it is universal as say in the label.

For aiming the dish I am using software to predict satellites (and it gives me the elevation) and a lot of web sites that gives me more information. I am sure that the dish is well fitted in the floor and I take care using a compass with scale too.

I aimed a lot of times wifi 5 Ghz antennas without trouble. I guess it is a little more hard aiming a satellite but not too hard to not receive at least 20% of signal.

The satellite that I am using and where I am have enought power to receive it with a 60 cm dish, but I am using a 90 cm dish. So I guess there are enought signal around and enought gain in the dish to capture something, at least some level of unusable but signal at end.

I don't know what more to do but buy a new LNB.

Any suggestions?

Make sure the dish mount is level else that elevation markings on the dish mean nothing :)

Hi Anyeos.
I have a tbs6920 card. I'm in Argentina, where are you from?
I can capture all channels on ARSat Mux.
This is my channels.conf for "Canal Encuentro"
Code: Select All Code
Canal Encuentro:12020:V:0:30000:70:71:0:1

Code: Select All Code
szap-s2 -l UNIVERSAL -a 3 -r -S 1 -C 56 -M 5 -H -c ezap.conf "Canal Encuentro"
reading channels from file 'ezap.conf'
zapping to 1 'Canal Encuentro':
delivery DVB-S2, modulation 8PSK
sat 0, frequency 12020 MHz V, symbolrate 30000000, coderate 5/6, rolloff 0.35
vpid 0x0046, apid 0x0047, sid 0x0000
using '/dev/dvb/adapter3/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter3/demux0'
status 1f | signal  86% | snr  78% | ber 0 | unc 0 | FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal  86% | snr  80% | ber 0 | unc 0 | FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal  86% | snr  93% | ber 0 | unc 0 | FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal  86% | snr  93% | ber 0 | unc 0 | FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal  86% | snr  81% | ber 0 | unc 0 | FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal  86% | snr  81% | ber 0 | unc 0 | FE_HAS_LOCK

I'm using LNB 0.1 nr and 110cm dish.
Kind Regards.

Don't worry about the dish mount, I am sure I am pointing it correctly. Maybe the near trees are creating trouble. But the dish and the aiming I guess it is ok.

I am in Cordoba.

But, SergioDanielG, can you please test for me if you disconnect the cable from your card what is the output of your szap-s2?
If you have something like signal always at 75% I can be sure my card is working correctly. But if you read something 0% I am sure something is wrong with my card or drivers (but I tested a lot of driver versions and all gives me the same result).

My channels.conf is like as your, except:
Canal Encuentro:12020:v:0:30000:70:71:70

I guess you have the wrong id for the channel. But you receive it anyway.

Please, test for me disconnecting the wire from your card. I have this output from szap-s2 with or without wire disconnected:

Code: Select All Code
reading channels from file '/root/.szap/channels.conf'
zapping to 2 'Canal Encuentro':
delivery DVB-S2, modulation 8PSK
sat 0, frequency 12020 MHz V, symbolrate 30000000, coderate 5/6, rolloff 0.35
vpid 0x0046, apid 0x0047, sid 0x0046
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
status 01 | signal  75% | snr   0% | ber 0 | unc 0 |
status 01 | signal  75% | snr   0% | ber 0 | unc 0 |
status 01 | signal  75% | snr   0% | ber 0 | unc 0 |

With disconnected cable:
Code: Select All Code
 szap-s2 -l UNIVERSAL -a 3 -r -S 1 -C 56 -M 5 -H -c ezap.conf "Canal Encuentro"
reading channels from file 'ezap.conf'
zapping to 1 'Canal Encuentro':
delivery DVB-S2, modulation 8PSK
sat 0, frequency 12020 MHz V, symbolrate 30000000, coderate 5/6, rolloff 0.35
vpid 0x0046, apid 0x0047, sid 0x0000
using '/dev/dvb/adapter3/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter3/demux0'
status 01 | signal  86% | snr   0% | ber 0 | unc 0 |
status 01 | signal  86% | snr   0% | ber 0 | unc 0 |
status 01 | signal  87% | snr   0% | ber 0 | unc 0 |
status 01 | signal  86% | snr   0% | ber 0 | unc 0 |

86% was last signal with connected cable.

Did you try other muxes of AMC6? For example
DVB-S 11603 V 8500 5/6
DVB-S2 11929 H 1660 5/6

Regards.

Ok ok, thank you.

Yes, I tried a lot of things / combinations software side and aiming the dish.
Including doing scan-s2 without sucess at all in a lot of frequencies.

Now I am more sure my card is ok.

I guess it can be the trees. I will try to find other location for the dish.

I played tonight with a laser pen and it just hit some vegetation / tree leafs. I guess the location of the dish don't give a clear view to the satellite.

On single sight apparently the trees don't disturb, but the laser gave me a different approach.

Other think... AMC6 is at 72ºW and Star One is at 70ºW with a transponder with same frequency but strong signal, better signal that AMC6, maybe you can tray move your dish to west a little. I know some cases of "bi-apuntamiento" (sorry, in english will be "capture two satellites with one lnb") or interferences.

When you used lasen pen, did you add off-set degree to dish to point it? If not, don't worry for tree leaft.
Regards.

:( No no no, this does not make sense at all.

We aimed the dish newly in a clean sky place. No trees in line of sight, verified. 54º elevation Is just more than 45º and less than 90º (obvious) but we verified the angles measuring the things (not only using the dish reference). And we take in account the offset, it is now well aimed.

The same result, tunning failed with scan-s2 and 75% (false data) but no lock of signal at all with szap-s2.
Neither moving the dish a few degrees searching for signal and doing it a lot of times testing in different little variations of angles.

I guess it is the LNB not compatible or damaged (the manufacturer is ILLUSION as I mentioned above), and the model is the single universal 0.1 db (but I read about that and the 0.1 db is minimum not average).

Can it be the PCI-E slot? I guess it is more related with signals, cable, lnb than other thing, I don't think it is something with the computer or drivers.
I tested the continuity of the cable and it is correct too. Anyway it is well crimped with the connector. I don't guess it is the wire.

The lnb is draining 60 mA, but I don't trust it is working as expected. Anyway I don't have form to test if it is working or just only draining energy.

It is some hard to find a lnb near where I live. It will take me some days to get one.

@SergioDanielG, what LNB are you using?
And it is possible to you give me some reference to buy the same like yours? In PM (private message) better.

Thank you for the help. Cheers.
